Shining Brightly Specialty Designer Series Paper Stuns with Beauty when You Use the Classic Letters Stamp Set for a Gorgeous Holiday Card

Do you think of Navy as a holiday color? I don't normally, but I think you will agree this card layout combined with several new soon-to-be released products would make you think otherwise.

On September 6th this gorgeous Shining Brightly Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP) will be in my online store. It is so elegant with the gold foil accents that are built into this paper that it will make your holiday cards look fit for royalty! Combine that DSP with some more gold foil layered in, and I think the balance of Night of Navy and Very Vanilla works nicely.

You may be asking yourself, ok then, why does she have a Basic White tag on the front? Good question! Have you ever made some practice pieces, in this case, I was experimenting with layering Versamark ink on top of the Night of Navy inked letters from the Classic Letters stamp set, then heat embossing them with Clear Embossing Powder. It worked so nicely I had to use it in a card design!

I actually think by using the Basic White tag it helps it "pop" on the card front. 

I always like to make a matching envelope flap too. Just cut a piece of the DSP 2 3/8' x 6", then adhere to the exterior flap and trim off the excess.

This holiday card starts with a 4 1/4" x 11" piece of Night of Navy cardstock, scored at 5 1/2".

The Gold Foil layer is 4" x 5 1/4".

Next a 2" x 5 1/8" of the DSP in the Very Vanilla star pattern is adhered to the right side of the Gold Foil Layer allowing for a 1/16" margin on the three sides.

Next cut a 2 1/4" x 5 1/8" Night of Navy leaf pattern section from the DSP and a 1/2" x 5 1/8" strip of Gold Foil. You will adhere the strip of gold underneath the right edge of the navy so only a 1/16" of Gold Foil shows. Now you are ready to affix the combined piece to the card face. Start adhering on the left side allowing for a 1/16" margin just like the right edge of the Very Vanilla. The Navy will overlap the Very Vanilla some.

For the Inner Card Layer, cut a 4" x 5 1/4" piece of Very Vanilla cardstock. You can add some decorative pieces of the DSP if you so desire. The greeting comes from a new set releasing on Sept. 6 called Joy to You stamped in Night of Navy ink. Adhere layer to the inside of the card.

Since Stampin' Up! doesn't have Night of Navy embossing powder, the next best thing to do is use the technique of stamping the letters first in Night of Navy ink, then stamping again on top with Versamark Ink and Heat embossing with Clear Embossing Powder and the Heat Tool. That way you get a fancy look in any color you want! Thanks to the Classic Letters stamps being see-through photopolymer material, it is very easy to line them up perfectly! I started with a 1" strip of Basic White by 4 1/8".

Finish with a Gold Foil 1 1/8" x 4 1 /4" piece that you mount the Basic White to. Raise the double layers with dimensionals.

The card is finished off the two Blooming Gold Pearls in the upper right corner, which are also coming out on Sept. 6.

Stampin' Up!s Sweet Songbirds Stamp Set and Matching Punch Makes the Cutest Birthday Card for You to Make and Share

You know how you purchase a stamp set or bundle with great intentions of using it right away? Well, that was my plan with the Sweet Songbirds Bundle I purchased last year. But life got in the way!

Fast forward to today...The Sweet Songbirds Bundle isn't bundled anymore. They are two separate products in this year's Annual Catalog - Sweet Songbirds photopolymer stamp set and Songbirds Builder Punch. But the good news is they are still awesome, high quality products that are super fun to craft with. 

This Birthday card uses several products along with the five 2023-25 In Colors ink pads and the Countryside Inn Designer Series Paper (DSP) in today's card share with you. There is one new product coming in the Fall Mini Catalog called Deckled Circle Dies and that is what I used for the focal point on the card front. I think I even tweaked a fun fold card layout a little bit to create this fun, fun birthday card for all your bird loving friends and family.

Above - Look close and you'll see how the 1 1/4" right section of the card front is folded back on itself and secured with dimensionals. Then the Sweet Songbird focal point on the Deckled Basic White cardstock circle is adhered to the fold back and the rest of the circle is raised on dimensionals to make for a flat card front.

I started with a 4 1/4" x 11" piece of Boho Blue cardstock. Scored at 1 1/4" and 5 1/2".

DSP Envelope Flap is 2 3/8" x 6". Adhere to exterior flap and trim off excess with paper snips.

Night of Navy cardstock pieces needed:

Front 4" square

Folded back flap 1" x 4"

Inner Layer 4" x 5 1/4"

Countryside Inn DSP pieces needed:

Front 3 3/4" square

Folded back flap 3/4" x 3 3/4"

Inner Layer edge piece 7/8"" x 3 3/4"

Basic White Cardstock Inner Layer piece 3 3/4" x 4"

Once all the layers are applied, then you can add 3 Dimensionals to the folded back flap to secure it to the card front, so it will be ready for the focal point application a little later.

In addition to the sentiment from the Sweet Songbirds stamped on the inner layer in Pebbled Path, I also used the "happy birthday" from  Best Family Ever stamp set. The musical notes were stamped in Boho Blue.

For the Front Focal Point:

Start with 4" square of Thick Basic White cardstock and die cut with the 7th largest Deckled Circle Die.

Leaves were stamped in Wild Wheat

Flowers in Moody Mauve with 2023-25 In Color Dots as flower centers.

Branch in Copper Clay

Bird feet, sentiment and musical notes in Pebbled Path

On a separate piece of Basic White 3" square, stamp the Songbird body in Boho Blue ink, then use Songbird Builder Punch and punch out. Add Dimensionals to the back of the bird, but don't apply yet.

With remaining portion of Basic White scrap, stamp wing also in Boho Blue ink and punch out. (Two separate times punching the paper.)  Use Tombow Multipurpose Glue to adhere wing to bird body.

Use a scrap of Daffodil Delight and punch out the beak. Use Tombow Multipurpose Glue to adhere where the beak goes. You'll see a spot where it goes (use a dot of glue.)

When wing and beak glue is dry, affix bird to deckled circle.

Now you have a wonderful Sweet Birthday card to send or share with a bird loving family member or friend.

Stampin' Up!s Just My Type and Phrases for All Stamp Sets Combine to Make an Encouraging Card for a Dear Friend

If you are looking for an easy card to make using only 2 stamp sets, 2 inks and 4 papers card, then this layout is for you! The landscape, side fold card really packs a punch of popping color, flying envelopes, and a typewriter whose letter is already started. 

The longer saying on the card says, "sending hugs & love when words aren't enough." When I saw that saying I thought it could be used multiple ways. For example: Sympathy in the loss of a loved one, or a loved pet; receiving a shocking health diagnosis; home or car accident; a divorce; or a faraway move across the country. I am sure there are more possible reasons, but the best reason of all is to be kind to your friend who is going through a tough time in their life.

Can you imagine someone sitting down at an old fashioned typewriter and whipping out letter after letter to their friends and loved ones. I can, thus the flying envelopes all over the card front.

Paper Snips for fussy cutting the typewriter and envelopes out.

Close up look at the fussy cut typewriter and sheet of paper coming out of it. Here's a hint for you, leave 1/2" of extra room on the bottom of the Basic White piece you'll use for the sheet of paper. By doing so you will be able to attach the two pieces together with adhesive and scotch tape for insurance. The dimensionals that you'll need to raise the typewriter will be so easy to apply when both pieces are connected together. 

All the flying envelopes were also fussy cut out. It is so fun to arrange them how you'd like, but be sure a few edges hang off the designer paper so you can trim prior to mounting the DSP layer on the Real Red layer.

Inside Layer Peek - 6 Boho Blue stamped envelope images in a border effect. Lots of room left to write your personal message, which I'm sure your friend would appreciate.

It is a good idea to have a matching envelope, so another pattern from the Countryside Inn Designer Series paper works nicely on the exterior envelope flap.

Make a Masculine Birthday Card with a Corner Fold Fun Fold that You Can Make Quickly with Stuff in Your Craft Space!

Cards for Guys are sometimes hard to come up with. Do you struggle with your designs for the men in your life? I do too. Today I'm sharing a masculine version of the Corner Fold Fun Fold Card (that's a mouthful!), done as a Birthday Card. I used some retired products that are still in my stamp room and you can do the same.

My color scheme was Night of Navy, Coastal Cabana, and Basic White along with the Waves of the Ocean Designer Series Paper that was sold early in 2022, but now retired. I used a variety of retired stamp sets. I found it fun to go back and look at some of my older sets to find just the right words I was looking for.

I really like how the corner fold and added layers make that cool looking set of 1/8" borders on the five layers in that upper right corner.

When the card is opened you have a surprise inside with the added layers on the left side, back of the front of the card. Then the normal inner Basic White layer with greeting and added stamp in the corner for effect.

LET'S START MAKING THIS CARD!

1. Cut Night of Navy Card base 4 1/4" x 11", score at 5 1/2"

2. Score the Corner Fold as shown in the diagram below.

3. Cut a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Waves of the Ocean Designer Series Paper (DSP) for the card face. You will need to measure the 3-1/4" from the top and right side of the DSP layer like the diagram above, draw a line and trim off with paper trimmer or paper snips. You may need to trim a little extra off the diagonal edge so it will lay smoothly underneath the corner fold. Adhere when you are happy with the fit. Then you can add one large dimensional under the corner flap to secure it to the card face.

4. For the Card Face Corner Fold Layers - Cut 3" square of Night of Navy, 2 3/4" square of Basic White,  2 1/2" square of Waves of the Ocean Designer Series Paper, and a 2 1/4" circle (either die cut or punched out).

5. For the inside Corner Fold Layers - Cut 3" square of Basic White, 2 3/4" square of Waves of the Ocean Designer Series Paper, and and a 2 1/4" circle (either die cut or punched out).

6. Let's assemble the layers for the front corner fold and for the inside front area now. 

Card Front - with the 3" Night of Navy square you will only put adhesive on the diagonal lower half, aligning the edge of the square with the folded over edge of the corner flap. Then continue to adhere the Basic White square and DSP square aiming for 1/8' margins on all sides. 

Inner Corner Fold area - adhere the 3" Basic White square so it aligns completely with the 3" Night of Navy square on the front side. Add the 2 3/4" DSP layer.

7. For the main Basic White layer inside the card, cut a 4" x 5 -1/4" piece. Don't adhere until you have done your desired stamping in the next step.

8. Now is stamping time for the two circles and the inner card layer! I used Night of Navy and Coastal Cabana inks and the following retired stamp sets: Suite Sayings, Suite Sentiments, and Friends are Like Seashells. Refer to the photos as needed. Once all the stamping is finished, then adhere the two circles and inner layer where they go as shown in the photos.

9. For the exterior envelope flap, cut a piece of DSP 2 3/8" x 6" and adhere to the flap, trimming off the excess. 

All done! Wahoo, a work of love to share! Now that you've made this card once, you can make more easily in the future.

Baseball Themed Angled Gatefold Latch Cards

My dear demo friend, Lori, held her June Christmas Spirit Club sharing the Angled Gatefold Latch Card but I was unable to attend virtually via Zoom due to a double booked commitment. Following that appointment, I went to work and made four of this fun fold since I had recently received my "Last Chance" order from the Jan. - June Mini Catalog. 

I really liked the "Hey Sports Fan" Designer Series Paper (now retired) and had been meaning to order it, so I finally did before it sold out. My friend Lori, loves the San Diego Padres, so I was thinking of her when I made these cards. 

Cardstock used - Bumblebee (retired), Night of Navy, Very Vanilla

Colored Cardstock: 5 1/2” X 11”, score as shown in the diagram. Then trim angles as shown.

 4” X 5 1/4” Very Vanilla for inside greeting layer.

Designer Series Paper: two complementary pieces 3 1/8” x 5 1/4” (be mindful of paper directionality and which side you want facing out. You may have to reverse the pattern below.) 

How to make the Baseball by hand:

Gather either a 1-3/4" and 2" circle punch or similar sized Circle Dies.

Gather 2-1/4" squares of cardstock - 1 piece Night of Navy, 2 pieces Very Vanilla.

Create 2 Very Vanilla Circles with the 1-3/4" Punch or 1-3/4" Circle Die. One circle will be used as a curve template to draw the sewing seam lines and the other piece will be used to make the actual ball that will go on the Night of Navy 2" Circle.

Create a Night of Navy Circle with the 2" Punch or 2" Circle Die.

With a Night of Navy Stampin' Write Marker, fine tip end, use the Very Vanilla circle template to draw the two curved seam lines as shown in the photo.

With a Poppy Parade Stampin' Write Marker, fine tip end, you will draw by hand the "V" stitching marks on both sides of the curves. I found it was easy to do only one side of the "V" at the time and go back and do the opposite side, so I could try for an even stitched look.

When finished with both Stampin' Write Markers, you will stamp the Happy Birthday sentiment in Night of Navy ink from the "A Grand Kid" stamp set.

Then adhere both layers together. Dimensionals will only go on the left side as you look at the ball, to create the closure mechanism. You will have to "bend" the card front a little bit to go under the baseball, but it is a great way to keep the card closed.

Here's the finished cards below - Enjoy! Don't forget to decorate your envelope flap too with a piece of 2-3/8" x 6" coordinating Designer Series Paper. Adhere and trim off excess with paper snips.

Part of the package of Hey Sports Fan Designer Series Paper had these great baseball ticket and Play Ball saying that I fussy cut out and adhered to the card front. 

The Resin Star embellishments were added on the finished card.

Stepped Up Go To Greetings Birthday Card

Welcome back to "Go To Greetings" Stamp Set Week. Today's card is almost like yesterday's but stepped up a bit more with fussy cut flowers and Happy Birthday greeting. I also left a little more Basic White showing when I adhered my Hues of Happiness Designer Series Paper to the front. I like the striped effect it gives. What do you think?

In the card close up below, it shows how the two outer flowers are glued down, but the middle rose have the leaves attached to it and it is raised up with mini dimensionals. The Solid Faceted Dots were spread out around the floral focal image.

I am really liking the trend of fussy cutting around stamped greetings, Today's "Happy Birthday" is the middle size option in this stamp set. It works perfectly to add a little movement and interest to the card front.

Go To Greetings Stamp Set with Hues of Happiness Suite

This week here on my blog I'll will be focusing on a new stamp set in the new Annual Catalog called Go To Greetings. It is such a versatile set, which fills a need to have multiple sizes of common greetings at your fingertips! You are going to want to add this set to your stamping inventory. The set is made up of three different fonts with different sizes of the most popular greetings that we all need. I'll be sharing with you some cards that illustrate how to use each size well.

A Scrappy Leftover Pieces Card

Advanced Beginner ability level

Since I have been using the Hues of Happiness Designer Series Paper (DSP) so much recently, I ended up having some sizeable pieces that I saved, knowing before too long, I would create a card with them.

Building on a layer of Basic White, I spaced out my three pieces to see how they would look. Decided to flip the middle piece over and it is the perfect spot to stamp the Happy Birthday greeting in Night of Navy ink. Adhere the three pieces to the Basic White, then add a layer of Melon Mambo behind, on a Night of Navy card base.  Embellishments were the navy bow and three faceted dots.

Inside the card is a Basic White layer with a flower fussy cut from the DSP and glued in the lower right corner.

Finished with decorating the envelope flap.

Can you see yourself doing a card like this? You should give it a try with whatever scraps you have on hand. Experiment. Play. Design your Masterpiece.

Wonderful Hues of Happiness Suite Fun Fold

As we all do, I have a few people I like to "follow" on Instagram. One of those people is the amazing Stampin' Up! Demonstrator Jaimie Babarczy of New York. I really liked this card she created recently (she cased it from @karenksenzakovic), but I have improved it just a bit.

As I was looking at the card, she only put one layer of Basic White inside and I thought to myself, hmmm, writing a message inside that card is going to prove difficult because it will show if you aren't careful. (Not to mention you would have an interesting shaped message inside if you got long-winded!)

My improvement was to use a 4" x 10.5" Basic White piece scored at 5.25". Glue the folded piece inside with the fold at the top. That way you have a spot to write your greeting on the bottom layer inside, but you also have the top white layer that will create the desired effect with this fun fold design. 

You will start with a full sheet of Cardstock and score it both directions at 4-1/4" and 5-1/2". Use the photo above at the cutting diagram for the two angled folds.

Select the piece of Hues of Happiness Designer Series Paper you like and cut a 4" x 5-1/4" piece then slice it diagonally to match the photo above. One piece is glued to the left side flap. Then flip over the other piece to glue to the top flap, thus creating the two tone look.

Adhere your folded Basic White insert inside and fussy cut one flower to glue as decoration to the inner layer.

Finish it up using the photo above for reference for the hexagon tag.

Happy Birthday Card with Hues of Happiness

Here's a Happy Birthday card for you using the Hues of Happiness Suite that will be available to order on May 3, 2022. I hope you saw yesterday's blog post that showed the stamp set, dies, and Designer Series Paper. It is all amazing and soooo gorgeous!

Have you ever had one of those projects that was going along so well (or so you thought) only to have a happy surprise at the end? This card was that kind of project for me.

My original design in my head looked like this photo below.

Then I put in the Basic White inner layer and the extra die cut flower for a little pizzazz. Later I realized, I put the flower in the wrong corner if I wanted a portrait card. LOL.

So that is why you have the photo below to show you that this particular design was a happy accident as it will work either direction. Portrait or Landscape!

It just depends which direction you write your message inside the card.
