Joyful Christmas Easel Card

After much time looking at Pinterest with what other creative people were posting using this stamp set, I designed this card with layout inspiration from SU Demo, Sharon Burkert.  I'd also been wanting to try heat embossing on the vellum cardstock and I was very pleased with those results. It's not hard at all. I added the color by sponge dauber on both the front and back sides of the paper, then fussy cut the poinsettia (x2) and leaf (x2). Use dimensionals to give height to the layers as you are building the card.

Making the easel card wasn't hard. You start with a piece of Real Red cardstock cut at 4.25" x 11" then score at 5.5", then on one half you cut two 1" strips to the score line from the two outside edges. Those 1" strips will be glued back down to the card base. The last score line you'll need is for the middle easel section scored across at 2.75."  Then cut your Whisper White cardstock at 2.25" x 5.25" and glue in place. The two polka dot pieces are 0.75" x 5.25" and glued down.

The oval poinsettia centerpiece is assembled then glued to the lower half of the center strip allowing for the scored line to fold creating the stand-up easel. The Decorative Label punch greeting is the "magic" that allows the easel to stand when propped against its edge which has been lifted with Dimensionals. I tried a new idea with the gold foil paper that I punched then layered behind the greeting - cut an X which gives you 4 pieces to glue with just a touch of gold showing behind the Whisper White. That idea saves paper and reduces thickness.

Festive Flurry Circle Thinlits Card

After much "researching" online around Pinterest  I designed this card for my Fancy Card Class that's coming up in December. I cut the brushed silver cardstock in half at 5.5" x 8.5" but then I trimmed the 5.5" height down just a 'smidge' so it would slide inside the Circle Card Thinlit Die and it would allow me to 'weave' the paper to lay on top of the metal die to create the additional flap on the right side of the card. The finished card slided into a white envelope that has had Brushed Silver paper cut with the Envelope Liner Framelit  Die and inserted for a lined envelope look. So elegant! Check out the supply list below and remember you can always order through my online store!

Winter Banner Idea

Stampin' Up! has designed the Christmas Banner Simply Created accessory kit (132697 $9.95) so I had to make a "Winter" Banner with it using the Build a Banner Simply Created Kit (133507 $19.95). It is super easy to color the banners using a sponge dauber and less messy than the spritzer method Stampin' Up! tells you to use.
A friend also shared with me how you can stack the banner for storage by rotating one flag on top of the next to keep them all lying flat. I thought that was genius!
If you haven't tried one of the banner kits in the Holiday Catalog I'd recommend it before they are gone at the end of December!

November 2-3 Stamp Club Cards

This month's cards are a pleasing assortment of autumn inspired colors.

Inspired by Bonnie Klass
This design uses 3 oldies but goodies sets - Medallion, Baroque Motifs, and Warmest Regards with Crisp Cantaloupe and Soft Suede ink on Very Vanilla. Card base is Very Vanilla with a Soft Suede layer. Accents are the 5/8" Crochet Trim and a discontinued taffeta ribbon in Soft Suede.

My own original design - Simple and Clean
Using the Thoughts and Prayers set and A Dozen Thoughts set with Black Stazon Ink this clean simple card is born. The base is Crumb Cake along with the polka dot paper DSP. The  scallop punch edged band is the Cherry Cobbler Co' ordinations paper dry embossed with the Pretty Print textured embossing folder. The final touch is an Early Espresso bow.

Inspired by Stephanie Faith.  Stephanie used the black and gray striped ribbon along with the Lovely as a Tree Set and Seasonal Sayings set, but I took it a different direction by coloring the stamps by hand with the Stampin' Write Markers in Early Espresso, Crushed Curry, Cherry Cobbler, Always Artichoke, and Tangerine Tango to give a "fall" effect. I lightly sponged behind the trees with Crushed Curry. I also hand colored the Seasonal Saying verse and sponged that edge too. The card base is Basic Gray with a Basic Black mat with Whisper White to stamp upon. Using the Apothecary Accents Framelits, I trimmed down the height a bit, and finished it off with some discontinued button brads.

Masking Tape Technique inspired by www.stampwithsusie.blogspot.com
This was almost a direct case of Susie's design, but I changed the paper color scheme to Very Vanilla, Crushed Curry, Cajun Craze, and Early Espresso. I heat embossed the maple leaf from the Gently Falling set in Early Espresso powder, and used the Tags 4 You Thanksgiving greeting with a Crushed Curry 1-3/4" circle punch to make the tag. The top two layers were wrapped with Early Espresso Baker's Twine and finished off with three Cajun Craze Candy Dots.

Happy Stamping! Enjoy!

Thankful Banner

Using the Stampin' Up! Canvas Banner Flags I wanted to see how they handled just stamping directly on them instead of stenciling. So I combined the Gently Falling set and the colors of Crushed Curry, Tangerine Tango, Soft Sky, Sahara Sand, and Chocolate Chip to stamp a pleasing background of assorted leaf combinations on each flag. Then using the Sweater Weather Designer Series Paper, 2" rosettes were made. Starting with the  3" circle framelit with Crushed Curry paper,  sponging the edge with Tangerine Tango ink next, and finally stenciling "thankful" in Chocolate Chip
made the word rosettes pop to life. A variety of ribbon and button accents were added. Once the flags were strung on the jute cord, then scraps of torn fabric were added between the flags.  I hope this idea will inspire you in your Thanksgiving decorating.

October Club - Photopolymer Thank You Set

This card looks WAY BETTER in person. I had not yet purchased one of Stampin' Ups! photopolymer stamp sets until this one. I have to say I like them except the ink color doesn't clean all the way off the stamp. It also helps to use the piercing mat as a stamping base so the photopolymer stamp has a cushy base to press into. The color theme is Summer Starfruit, Gumball Green, and Early Espresso. That ribbon is Chocolate, not purple in color.  Paper piercing around the edge gives it a nice touch I think.

October Stamp Club - Six Sided Hexagon - CASEs

Both of these cute cards were CASEd, unfortunately I can't give credit where it's due. I'm sorry. I just like how versatile this set is. So many ways to combine the hexagons to make fun, cheery cards. The hexagon dry embossing folder helps bring the designs together!  I also love the idea of using one of the hexagon designs to punch the bitty butterfly from.

October Stamp Club - Halloween Bats

This card uses the Bitty Butterfly Punch with the 1/2" circle punch to make the cute bats. I also combined a quote from the Yippee Skippy set with Seasonal Sayings for this cute result. I love Washi Tape too, it really pulls the card together. Using the Deco Label Framelits with a little sponging technique really makes this an easy Halloween card to produce quickly.

October Stamp Club - Halloween Original

This month at Stamp Club I was emphasizing the Six Sided Sampler set. This card is an original design turning the hexagon into a pumpkin! What do you think? I couldn't resist using some googlie-eyes and a hand drawn mouth. I also wanted to see what dry embossing on Designer Series Paper would look like and I like the result.  Thanks for taking a look.

Easy Spooky Banner

The Spooky Banner shown in the Holiday Catalog is very easy to make. All you need is the Build a Banner Simply Created Kit (133507 - $19.95) and the Halloween Banner Simply Created Accessory Kit (132698 - $9.95). The cool part is once you have the build a banner kit, you'll get all the stencils you'll need to make many more banners and you'll have 12 more flags to work with from your initial investment. So you could make a "winter" and "spring" banner if you'd like. Then if you get the banner bug to make even more you'll just need the Banner Simply Created Kit (132699 - $9.95) to get more canvas flags.

The color theme is Pumpkin Pie, Summer Starfruit, Basic Black, so you'll need those inks and sponge daubers to do the stenciling. My cardstock strips are 2" wide with the matching banner notch cut by using the canvas banner as a pattern.

I jazzed up the banner with two more rosettes (they need to be 2" wide by 16" long, scored at 3/8" intervals) with the Witches Brew Designer Series Paper (132185 - $10.95), and added some buttons and googly-eyes to top it off.  Isn't it darling?

The Washinton State Fair Demonstration Booth - Sept. 15

Last Sunday I demonstrated rubber stamping techniques at The Washington State Fair for two hours (formerly known as the Western Washington Fair or the Puyallup Fair.)  This is my second time volunteering. It is a blast to talk with people, meet other demonstrators, and show off Stampin' Up! products.  The two hours fly by. Next year stop on by!

(I displayed a few swaps I received at Convention, plus some of the Make and Takes I did there too, along with my original work.)

Thanks for taking a look today. Come visit again!

A Helpful Hint!

Ever since I began my Stampin' Up business almost 3 years ago now, I've been using my small paper snip scissors to lift pearls and rhinestones off their backing and onto the cards I've been making. Recently however, I decided to try using the SU piercing tool instead. Oh My Gosh, what a difference using the right tool does for a person!  There are several positive benefits to using the piercing tool: 1) you really can get the jewel just where you want it, 2) you always get the sticky backing picked up with the jewel, so no more wasted jewels, and 3) best of all - you don't have to clean your paper snips with "Undo" as often. So time saved!

I hope this tip will help you as much as it has me! Have a great day!
