Happy Independence Day 2017

In Honor of America's 241st Birthday, I created this fun 5 x 7 inch framed flag using scraps from my large Designer Series Paper collection (retired portion), plus red foil paper and red glimmer paper for the USA. The Large Letter Framelits were the perfect size to run through the Big Shot to embellish the frame, then finish them off with retired Crushed Curry enamel stars. The letters were given a shadow effect by placing the red glimmer on top of the red foil using Fast Fuse adhesive, then raised off the frame edge with the new mini Dimensionals. The white frame was one I had hanging around and decided it would be perfect. (Sometimes, I find the best frames at Goodwill!) I hope you agree!

Here's more details of the construction. The 7 red strips were originally cut at  6" long by 1/2 inch width, but I decided to carefully tear off a scant 1/8" from one of the length edges to give a more primitive look and allow me to create the actual 13 stripes using a base of 5 x 7 " piece of Whisper White cardstock with the stripes starting & finishing approximately 1/2 " from every edge, so it would look nice in the frame. The blue corner is 2 x 2 inches with 5 small punched stars from Dazzling Diamonds glimmer paper affixed with glue dots. Two of the edges of the star section were torn, removing a scant 1/8" and then affixed on top of the stripes. Place the flag under the glass, into the frame and finish by adding the USA as described above.

I hope this inspires you to make something similar. Thanks for stopping by.

June 2017 Paper Pumpkin Alternative Ideas

I have been subscribing to Stampin' Up!s Paper Pumpkin monthly kit for several years now, but the June kit is one of my all time favorites, because I LOVE watermelons! This kit is called One in a Melon!  The suggested designs were fine, but I wanted to make my own this month, so here's what I came up with.

Added Melon Mambo ribbon to the small gift bags as handles and used one of the note card fronts as a banner (see left bag), plus I folded the circle tag in half, so it was more watermelon slice-like.

The Happy Birthday sentiment stamp came from a different Paper Pumpkin kit from a couple months ago. I also added a little rind effect with an Emerald Envy marker I own.

Using the provided note card front, I cut them in half horizontally to get two cards by adding my own Emerald Envy and Melon Mambo cardstock to the mix.

Thanks for taking a look. You are welcome to sign up for your own monthly box of creativity through the link on my main homepage of this blog.

Happy creating!
