We Gathered, Crafted, and Celebrated Christmas in July! See What Gifts I Gave to my Dear Stamping Friends in Their Holiday Shopping Bags!

Over the course of the last couple weeks, my 10 Christmas in July card designs were shared with you. I hope you have enjoyed being inspired by them.

Today's post shares the treats that were in each stamper's Holiday Shopping bag that was part of my Christmas in July event.

An origami two tea bag holder held Peppermint Tea and Orange Spice Tea. They were simple to make from a 6" x 6" piece of the Sweetest Christmas Designer Series Paper. 

Here's a suggestion of how to fold the square. You will need to place one of your tea bags in the middle and fold around it so you will have a good fit. The pleat at the bottom is approximately 3/8" on each side of the center fold.

Retired - Tag Buffet Kit stamp set made the labels with Shaded Spruce ink and raised with a couple of Dimensionals. Non-Stampin' Up! 1/8" red ribbon tied the tips together through a small punched hole.

I had two full retired Tag Buffet Kits with the matching stamp set from a couple of years ago. Each kit made 30 tags, so the 60 tags in all were shared equally among the participants. The Baggies used I've had in my stash for a long time and I don't remember where I got them.

Spangler Candy Canes were ordered from Amazon. 

The darling slide on tag was make with the Sweet Candy Canes Bundle from the July - December 2022 Mini Catalog.

The Peek-a-Boo Treat Bags were stamped with images from the Christmas to Remember stamp set in both Shaded Spruce and Real Red inks. 

Old Fashioned Hard Candy (also from Amazon) filled the bags. 

All my Guests loved all their "Sweet Treats." We had a wonderful holiday time together making 10 Christmas cards, enjoying refreshments, and listening to Christmas music on Spotify.

Christmas in July Card Ideas for Cardmakers Who Never Start Early Enough Making Their Own Cards

We all like to give thoughtful gifts for the holidays, especially when we take the time to make beautiful handmade cards. 

But often we get behind on our to-do list and sometimes those cards never get made at all, or only partially finished, or we don't make enough, and have to choose which special people will be the lucky ones for this year. 

That's why I've designed ten great card layout ideas for you to try. They will help you make some easy, but beautiful holiday cards. You can start now and get a head start on your Christmas Card to-do list for those special handmade cards you want to send in December!

The best part is you can repeat these layouts with a variety of stamp sets and fancy paper you may have on hand. My card designs are made with Stampin' Up! products - stamps, inks, Designer Series Papers, and embellishments. They are the best products around in my opinion! Color Coordinated, sturdy papers, and beautiful designs to work with.

As a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator I have a stash of products in my craft room. Some are retired now, since I didn't use them up before they retired from the various catalogs. However, you can still recreate the layouts easily and that is why I'm sharing them with you to help you with your holiday cardmaking.

The only item retired on this card layout is the Peaceful Prints Designer Series Paper #156628, but maybe you can find some through Ebay or Etsy.

You will also need a 1/4" handheld hole punch.

Quick Cutting Measurements:

Real Red Cardstock - 5.5" x 8.5", scored at 4.25"

Basic Black Cardstsock - 4" x 5.25"

Designer Series Paper - two pieces of coordinating paper. Cut each 3.75" x 5". Then stack both pieces together and slice diagonally with the Paper Trimmer. You actually have enough for two cards!

Basic White Cardstock inner card layer - 4" x 5.25"

Basic White Cardstock for tag 2.75" square

Envelope flap piece of matching Designer Series Paper - 2-3/8" x 6"

One Sheet Top Locking Fun Fold Card

I'm always looking for new fun folds to try, and when this one popped up on my Facebook feed I knew I had to try it. Jan Radu, a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator from Australia posted this creative card design. Since Australia is on the metric system, she shared the Imperial system measurements but needed someone to confirm she had done it correctly. She did! Here's my result to share with you. 

 I have attached Jan's YouTube video below so she gets all the credit here for this card design I cased.

I used Evening Evergreen cardstock as the card base and the Painted Christmas Designer Series Paper and its gorgeous designs for the variety of patterns on this card. The Christmas to Remember stamp set is the greeting on the circular tag. The edge die I used is long retired and I had to dig it out of my die collection as I had very simple edge dies.

Start with an 8-1/2" x 11" piece of cardstock. In Portrait format score at 2-1/8" and 6-3/8". Rotate the cardstock 90 degrees and score at 5-1/2".  Carefully cut and remove the lower left and right sections that are 2-1/8" x 5-1/2".  Save one of these pieces as it will become the added-on flap that will become part of the locking mechanism.

Trim that saved section to 4-1/4" x 2-1/8". On the long side, score 3/8" across. That 3/8" section will be where you will put a strip of Tear and Tape in order to wrap the flap over the top of the center section to make the locking mechanism.

You will need the narrowest stitched rectangle die for the sliding slot.

Cut three pieces of coordinated Designer Series Paper at 4-1/8" x 5-3/8".

One piece of Basic White cardstock cut at 3-3/4" x 5" for the inner card liner. 

Using the Layering Circles Dies, you'll need the second-largest scalloped circle, the second-largest plain circle, and the fourth largest plain circle for the stamped tag portion.

Hint - pay attention to the scallop edge on the outer and inner slider and align them so they look nice before pressing firmly to the two dimensionals.

Scotch tape whatever added decorations you would like on the back of the stamped tag before raising it with dimensionals and placing it on the sliding mechanism.

Lori's Christmas Tags to Share

My demonstrator friend, Lori P. has been holding monthly Christmas card classes this year via Zoom since she lives in Southern California, and I've been joining in as much as I can. Today was the last class until the new year and it focused on holiday tags! 

Lori did all the hard work designing these but she shared that she was inspired by the July-December 2021 Mini Catalog. She said that the catalog has over 20 tag ideas to case.

A Lori original layout using 3" strips of the recently retired Sale-a-Bration products Penguin Playmates punched with the retired Scalloped Tag Topper punch and punched starburst circles of the Sale-a- Bration Be Dazzling Specialty Paper. The Retired Itty Bitty Christmas Greetings stamp set was the one I used throughout these tags. Plus very retired glimmer enamel dots whose name I can't even remember! The 1/8" satin white ribbon is not a Stampin' Up! product, just something hanging around my craft room.

Seasonal Label Dies shapes cut in Garden Green and Basic White with a narrow strip of Sale-a-Bration Peaceful Prints Designer Series Paper adhered. Fussy cut animals from the

Sweet Stockings Designer Series Paper raised on mini dimensionals.

These two tags were influenced by page 78 above

More Sweet Stockings Designer Series Paper used along with more fussy cut images from the paper as well.

She was influenced by the lower right corner tag on page 61. The Painted Christmas Designer Series Paper and Basic White cardstock were die cut with Tailor Made Tags. I used some retired White Glimmer Paper and a very retired snowflake die to add the accent.

A similar idea is found on page 3 using the Christmas Season Bundle, Christmas to Remember stamp set, and the Painted Christmas Designer Series Paper. I added the Real Red Ruffled 3/8" ribbon for more pop at the tag top! The red 1/8" ribbon was some more non Stampin' Up! ribbon laying around my craft room.

So if you need some quick holiday package tags or tags for cookie swaps, these are some great ideas to try. Making tags are also a great way to use up those retired products or scraps you have hanging around. Give these designs a try!

Very Very Bright Merriest Frames Card

This was actually the first sample card I made using the Merriest Frames Hybrid Embossing Folder and Die Set when I was designing for my October Stamp and Chat Class. I decided the Real Red was too bright so I went with the second card I designed that you can view at the link below.

Herringbone Paper Strip Pattern to Try

Since I've been so carried away with Christmas cards, here's another design for you!

The Christmas to Remember stamp set and the Painted Christmas Designer Series Paper (DSP) make a beautiful card using 3/4" strips in a Herringbone pattern. I cased the layout from Teresa Leggo but used a different set of products.

The Herringbone Paper Strip Technique is a wonderful one to try when you have lots of strips hanging around your scrap bin. It is so easy to cut your strips in 3/4" widths. Length doesn't matter. You can decide where you want the starting diagonal strip to go and continue from there. 

On this card, my starting diagonal was at 1" on the left side of the Basic White piece you will build on, and 3-1/4" on the right side. Make small tick marks so you can cover them when you place the first strip. Glue down the strips in the herringbone pattern and trim the excess paper that hangs over the edge off with your paper snips. 

Add the ribbon and scotch tape on the backside. Adhere the strip layer to the Crumb Cake and Card base. Add the inner Basic White layer. Add a sponge dauber edge to the tag after stamping the greeting. Add some holly and berries (you will only need 3 of the 4 berries) stamped and die cut out. Finish with your pearl embellishment. Don't forget to do your envelope flap too!

Silver Blog Hop with Fall Mini Catalog

Welcome to the Silver to Silver Elite August Blog Hop

Sharing a Holiday Card from products in the August to December 2021 Mini Catalog

Since I love Christmas, it was easy to design a Christmas card for this Blog Hop. I used products from the Painted Christmas Suite on pages 16-19.

I'm calling this design a Fixed Double Point Layout.

Tent style vertical card design

To create this card you'll need the following products and use as directed:

Real Red Cardstock for card base, cut 4-1/4" x 11", scored at 5-1/2"

Soft Succulent Cardstock layer, cut 4" x 5-1/4" and embossed with the 

Tasteful Textures Embossing Folder (Do not adhere to card front yet!)

Evening Evergreen Cardstock - 3-1/2" x 4" piece for die cut from the Seasonal Labels Die set

Basic White Cardstock, two pieces:

Inner layer, cut 4" x 5-1/4"

Seasonal Label Die Cut tag 3" square

Painted Christmas Designer Series Paper - two pieces cut 4" wide x 3" tall. Pay attention to directionality. Score at 1" on the 3" side

To make the pointed sections as shown on the card face, you will fold up the 1" scored section and crease with bone folder, then unfold. Then you will fold each upper corner inward to make the triangle section as shown.  Add a little adhesive to hold the folded triangles in place.

Run adhesive on the one inch section and place it on the backside of the embossed Soft Succulent layer. Those triangles are meant to be sandwiched between the Real Red card base and the embossed layer.

Christmas Season Stamp Set - I used the little tiny dots in the bottom center stamped in Real Red ink on the inner Basic White card layer.

Christmas to Remember Stamp Set for the greeting stamped in Real Red Ink.

3/8" Mini Real Red Ruffled Ribbon for Bow, attached with Glue Dots.

Lastly, embellish the Basic White tag with three Red Rhinestones. Adhere the inner Basic White layer. Cut a 2-3/8" x 6" piece of the matching Designer Series Paper to cover the Basic White envelope flap for an extra coordinated look.

Looks fabulous! This design will go together quickly and you'll be able to make several Christmas cards of this design for your holiday sending or giving.

Products needed to make these Cards:

Basic White Thick cardstock cut 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", scored at 4-1/4"

Basic White cardstock strip cut 1/2" x 4"

From the Peaceful Print Designer Series Paper (DSP) - cut a row of deer at a height of 2-1/8", then square up the deer as shown in the photo. 

Using the Christmas to Remember stamp set and Memento Tuxedo Black Ink, stamp the greeting. (HINT- I cut the stamp in two so each word was separate.)

Mount the deer on a 2-3/8" square of Basic Black cardstock

From your choice of the DSP cut two 4" x 5-1/4" vertical pieces

Slice those pieces horizontally at 3-1/4"

Mix and match the pieces to look similar to the photo. Adhere to the card base. Add the Basic White 1/2" strip to hide the seam. Then raise the deer up on dimensionals. Add red rhinestones for embellishment and a small black and white gingham bow with glue dots. Wasn't that fast?

Peaceful Prints Horizontal Latching Gate Fold Card

 You ready for some more Christmas? I am! Here's the horizontal Latching Gate Fold Card I designed using yesterday's vertical design as inspiration. I think they are just as cute! You might even have less waste of the Peaceful Prints Designer Series Paper (DSP) because you'll be cutting the width of the paper 4" x 12".  It's also fun to select which deer shall go in either direction.

I cased this Latching Gate Fold idea from Melissa Stout, The Stamp Doctor. 

Here's how to make this darling card!

1) Select your card bases in Real Red, Garden Green, or Crumb Cake and cut several at 4-1/4" x 11", score at 2-3/4" and 8-1/4".  HINT: As you are folding the two front panels together, have them touch and line up the top and bottom edges, so they don't overlap, then use your bone folder to burnish the score lines.

2)  Select the Deer Patterned sheet next. You will cut across horizontally to separate the "rows" of deer. Your strips will be in the neighborhood of 2-1/8" wide. Using my photo as an example, you will want to make 2-1/8" squares of every deer on the page. Some of the pieces you have left over will be able to be used for the horizontal latching piece.

3) With whatever greeting you choose and using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink, stamp your greeting around the deer as shown. 

4) Cut 2-3/8" squares of Basic Black cardstock and mount the deer images on them with adhesive. Next you'll need two of the larger dimensionals. Flip your deer tags over and place the dimensionals at the top right and lower right corners. You only need two per deer.  Set aside for a bit.

5) Select another sheet of the DSP and cut a 4" x 12" width, then cut 2-1/2" wide panels from the 4" height. You'll get multiple panels from that section of paper. Then you can select another sheet and do the same. That way you'll have 4 different designs to create with on your card bases. Decide how you want to arrange your panels and adhere them down.

6) Next cut 1-1/4" x 3-1/2" strips of Basic Black Cardstock for however many cards you are making. Now with the gingham scraps left over from the deer or select another scrap you may have, select the ones that are 3-1/2" or longer and slice them into 1" strips. Adhere the DSP strips and Basic Black strips together so both ends line up. Trim if any are a little too long.

7) With the DSP and black strips you just made you will be adhering just 2-1/2" with adhesive, and the 1" left will not have any on it. Place the strip as shown in the photo so it lines up with the right fold line.

8) Take one of your prepared deer tags and peel off the two dimensional backings. The goal is to make sure the dimensionals do not touch the DSP strip but the tag itself is also centered left and right on the card front like shown in the photo.

9) If you'd like, you are welcome to embellish the deer tag with some rhinestones or sequins.

THE SECRET LATCHING TRICK: 

Try to open the card and you'll notice the strip slips easily from the empty space of the deer tag and card front thanks to the height of the dimensionals. Pretty Cool isn't it!

Now try to insert it back into that space and you'll see how easy the card stays closed. Voila!
