Revisit of Believe Eclipse Card

Since I'm celebrating Christmas in July and maybe you are new to reading my blog, I thought I would bring back one of my most popular designs from 2017. My inspiration was a wooden sign I saw while having lunch at Kneaders and attending the OnStage experience in Salt Lake City in Nov. 2017.

The Eclipse Technique is really super easy. You decide what word you want to cut out. You can use any letter dies you have, but for this project I used the Large Letter Dies.

Images (c) 2017 Stampin' Up!

Some of the card supplies are retired, but if you have these items in your stash - go for it!

Products
Basic Black Cardstock
Red Foil - retired
Basic White Cardstock
Large Letter Dies - retired
Santa Hat punch - retired
White and Red Glimmer Paper - retired
Small Snowflake die of your choice
Silver Foil
Petite Curly Label Punch - retired
Die Cutting Machine
Tombow Liquid Multipurpose glue
Dimensionals
Glue Dots
Paper Trimmer

 Directions:

Basic Black Cardstock is cut full width 8.5" x 8", with a score line at 4", so the card will fit in a No. 10 business size envelope (USA). (Or you can make your own envelope if you are so inclined!) The belt is 3/8" wide by the length of your 3 letters (you may have to trim to fit.)

A few hints for you - 1) Draw a light pencil line about 5/8" down from the top of the white paper to help you position the letter dies at the precise same height (use a white eraser to erase line before starting to place letters in frame you have created), 2) You may want to use some post it notes or washi tape to hold the letter dies in place as you cut, 3) "Believe" will barely fit in the width of the paper, so be sure to layout the dies, so you can get the feel for how you need to space them when sending through your die cutting machine, 4) Use wax paper to put between the snowflake die and the silver foil paper to help it easily remove from the die when using the die brush, 5) Use Tombow Multipurpose liquid glue to assemble the hat prior to attaching with glue dots to the "B", 6) The 3 piece Belt is glued together prior to placing on the letters, 7) Attach belt with glue dots on the 3 "EVE" letters by laying the letters in the frame before attaching with the foam strips. . Then you can trim the belt to length if needed before placing the foam strips on the back of the letters.

I hope you'll give this technique a try. There are so many words you can use to make cards or home decor pieces for a variety of holidays, you won't be able to stop once you start!

Happy Creating!

Collar Christmas Card Ideas

Have you ever tried the Collar Fun Fold? It is a really great way to show both sides of Stampin' Up!s beautiful Designer Series Paper (DSP). This fun fold is also great to use on everyday cards you make as well. It is a very versatile fun fold!

Like my last two days of posts, these cards were also inspired by my demo friend, Lori Perez, and her monthly Christmas Card Zoom class. Her classes give me a way to use up some of my extensive selection of Designer Series Paper.

The best hint to give you on this fun fold is to use a pencil and ruler to find the middle of where you want to make your cut, so you know where to stop as you cut inward. I personally don't like using a scoring blade to make my folds, the DSP tends to crack for me. I rather fold the "collar" back by hand and lightly run my fingernail down the fold once I have it where I want it. I use a mini-dimensional to secure the collar tip to the card front after I have the entire piece secured on the Basic White layer and then to the card base.

Another good hint is to stamp your images prior to securing the DSP to the Basic White layer. However you can lay your collar layer on top so you know where to stamp or at least place it for a moment to get an idea.

The decorative tags help to cover up any imperfections in the center cut and collar folding.

Basic instructions for making these cards:

Card 1: Double Poinsettia (upper middle)
Card Base - 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", scored at 4-1/4"
Layer of Basic White for the stamping layer 4" x 5-1/4"
Layer of DSP 4" x 5-1/4"
On both 4" ends, draw your pencil line at the 2" mark, then cut 2" in.
Carefully fold the collar back and position it how you like.
Assorted Holiday stamps and punches or dies of your choice
Inks to coordinate with your DSP
Embellish how you like.

Card 2:  Pearl necklace and bow (lower left)
Card Base - 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", scored at 4-1/4"
Layer of Basic White for the stamping layer 4" x 5-1/4"
Layer of DSP 4" x 5-1/4"
On one of the 4" ends, draw your pencil line at the 2" mark, then cut 2" in.
Carefully fold the collar back and position it how you like.
Assorted Holiday stamps and punches or dies of your choice
Inks to coordinate with your DSP
The bow on this card what heat embossed.
Embellish how you like.

Card 3; Small bow (lower right)
Card Base - 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", scored at 4-1/4"
Layer of Basic White for the stamping layer 4" x 5-1/4"
Layer of DSP 4" x 5-1/4"
On one of the 5-1/4" sides, draw your pencil line at the 2-5/8" mark, then cut about 1-1/2" into center.
Carefully fold the collar back and position it how you like.
Assorted Holiday stamps and punches or dies of your choice
Inks to coordinate with your DSP
Embellish how you like.

I like how these turned out, but I think my favorite is the double collar because I love how the poinsettia stamp fit in there so perfectly.

I hope you'll give these a try too. That is what is so wonderful about card making - every card is a work of art and you have an infinite amount of combinations to explore!

Happy crafting!

Christmas in July Snowmen Cards

Are you a Christmas Lover who likes to get an early jump on the holidays? If so, come back daily to my blog over the next week or so for lots of Christmas card layout ideas!

Snowman Season is one of my favorite winter stamp sets along with the Snowman Builder Punch. Stampin' Up! has kept those around for a couple seasons now. Just like yesterday's post, my demo friend, Lori Perez, shared this card layout idea with her Christmas Card Club earlier this year. I just love her ideas and they are a great way to use up some retired products in my stash. You can too!

This photo is my "organized desk look." I'm all ready for class to start on Zoom.
Trust me it doesn't stay that way very long. LOL!

The directions for these three layouts are very simple!

Card 1: Vertical layout with 2" square on point. (Upper Left)
5-1/2" x 8-1/2" card base with score at 4-1/4"
Designer Series Paper 4" x 5-1/4"
Designer Series Paper Strip 3/4" x 4" with stamped greeting or add
on top of strip with slightly smaller Basic White strip
Coordinating Cardstock 2-1/4" square
Designer Series Paper 2" square
Scraps for snowman and Memento Tuxedo Black Ink
Color and Embellish as you desire.
Basic White inner layer 4"-5-1/4"

Card 2: Vertical layout with edge strip and bakers twine. (Upper Right)
5-1/2" x 8-1/2" card base with score at 4-1/4"
Designer Series Paper 3-1/2" x 5-1/4"
(I used three DSP scraps to make the front piece on the card shown below)
Designer Series Paper 1/2" x 5-1/4"
Baker's Twine
Your choice of die cut tag from cardstock
and matching Basic White tag for snowman image
Add greeting as you desire.
Color and Embellish as you desire.
Basic White inner layer 4"-5-1/4"

Card 3: Horizontal layout with double rectangles in center. (Lower Center)
5-1/2" x 8-1/2" card base with score at 4-1/4"
Designer Series Paper 4" x 5-1/4"
Designer Series Paper 2-3/4" x 4-1/8"
Basic White 2-1/4" x 3-5/8" stamped with Snowman image and greeting
The two little tabs are 1/2" x 1" pieces that are affixed to card front so it will
appear the center rectangles are being held by them.
Color and Embellish as desired.
Basic White inner layer 4"-5-1/4"

The felt accents on the upper left cards in both photos were leftover from a couple years ago. You could fussy cut your own if you have some bits of felt around. I glued them down with liquid glue.

Hope you are inspired to give these layouts a try! I'm sure glad I did!

Happy Day to YOU!

Christmas Cards in July Ideas

Since the August-December 2021 Mini Catalog hasn't quite launched yet, I thought it would be fun to dive into to some Christmas Card layout ideas using mostly retired products. Getting a head start on your Christmas card making in the summer will definitely help you when December rolls around.

Even though USPS postage is going up again soon, sending a card is a thoughtful way to give the gift of your time and creativity to your loved ones and dear friends.

The six cards I'm sharing today were from an online class I attended with my adopted demo to my team, Lori Perez. She has been holding monthly Christmas card classes for her customers and she has been so gracious to include me.

This a split front card. It lends itself to Designer Series Paper really well, because you can get several different looks by just flipping the paper over. Or rotating the card from vertical to horizontal.

Of course this layout would be great for anytime of the year really!

Here's the instructions for one card:
Card Base - 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", scored at 4-1/4"

Basic White or Very Vanilla Layer depending on the Designer Series Paper
you've chosen - 3-3/4" x 4-1/4""

Designer Series Paper Layer 3-1/2" x 4"

Adhere the white or vanilla layer to the Designer Series Paper with an even border,
then cut it diagonally through the middle,
but not at a real steep angle however. Notice how you can cut either direction!

With a difference piece of Designer Series Paper, cut a 1" strip x 6"

Using Dimensionals place the two cut apart layers about 3/4" away from each other, but with even borders and line up edges as shown in the photos.

This is the trickiest part - with liquid glue put small dots of glue in the "channel" and out to the edge of the card base. Then slide in your 1" strip, letting both ends hang over the card edges. Press down. Trim off the overhang when dry.

Make whatever type of layered tag with a stamped greeting. This tag is attached flat to the raised layer. Embellish the rest of the card how you would like - bow, jewels, enamel dots - you get the idea.

I recommend you give this layout a try. I hadn't seen it before Lori shared it, and I'm really glad she did.
It is always fun to add more ideas to your bag of tricks!

Have a lovely day!

August Hope Box Paper Pumpkin Kit Video

With our lives starting to feel more normal than they have in the last 16 months we have hope that brighter days are ahead. Shelli Gardner, Co-founder of Stampin' Up! and currently Chairman of the Board has helped design this August kit called Hope Box.

She shares what she has put in her Hope Box after making the nine cards that come in the kit. This is one of the most personal videos I have seen her share in my 10 years with the company.

The ideas she offered has me thinking what do I want to do with my hope box after I finish making the cards. How about you? What ideas might you include in your Hope Box.

Here's another image showing some of the coordinating colors in the kit - Bermuda Bay, Blackberry Bliss, Bumblebee, Petal Pink, Melon Mambo, Pool Party and Poppy Parade.

If you are not a Paper Pumpkin subscriber or want to re-subscribe you can do so at this link for only $22 per month plus tax. Shipping is included in the price. You receive so much value each month with all the necessary supplies, the enclosed stamp set and ink spot that you can use again and again. All you need to provide are scissors and some double stick tape.

If I can be of service with your subscription please let me know. Have a hopeful day!
