Cute Snowflake Holiday Card

I am still crushing on the Gingerbread and Peppermint Suite from the July-December 2021 Fall Catalog. This layout was inspired by Ann Krucek, but I changed up a bit with the ribbon and bow addition.

This Suite makes it so easy to create beautiful cards that are sure to be well received. The color scheme of Cinnamon Cider, Real Red, and Old Olive along with Basic White goes together very well.

Products Used to Create this Card:

Cinnamon Cider card stock card base.

Basic White 4” x 5-1/2” die cut with largest scallop contour dies -

then adhere to card base.

Gingerbread and Peppermint Designer Series Paper (DSP) cut 3” x 4-1/4”

Retired Basketweave Metallic ribbon combo pack - cut a 5-1/2" piece to wrap around DSP layer, scotch tape ends to back of DSP.

Basic White  2-1/2" square cut out with 2-1/4" Layering Squares die.

Frosted Gingerbread stamp set sentiment stamped in Real Red Ink. 

Adhere flat to DSP/ribbon combo.

Tie a separate bow and affix with glue dots next to the scalloped square as shown in the photo.

Use Gingerbread and Peppermint dies to cut out snowflake from DSP and raise on dimensionals.

Fussy cut two "mints" and glue one flat and raise one with mini dimensionals.

Finish with retired Cinnamon Cider InColor enamel dots.

Die cut one more snowflake and cut in half to replicate the inner card layer.

The Result of our Zoom Class for World Cardmaking Day

Today is World Cardmaking Day! I offered a free Zoom class for two hours this morning. A couple of nice ladies joined me. We had fun making two cards each of the following three styles of Christmas cards. 

If you didn't know World Cardmaking Day originally started to give stampers a head start on their handmade Christmas cards. 

I used retired products - Holly Jolly Layers Stamp Set, Layering Square Dies, and Snowflake Splendor Designer Series Paper. 

Cardstock colors - Pacific Point and Mint Macaron

You get to decide whatever sentiment stamp set and die or punch to use with your cards.

Card 1 - Cut the 4" x 5-1/4" Designer Series Paper (DSP) at 2" on the 5-1/4" side and flip one piece over. With another scrap of matching DSP cut 1/2" x 4" to cover the paper seam.

Card 2 - Mini Center Easel Fun Fold cased layout from Dana Hancock

On 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" card base, score at 4-1/4", fold on the score line.

Then mark 1-1/2" from the left edge and repeat on the right edge as shown in the photo.

Using your paper trimmer, slice on the 1-1/2" marks just up to the fold line on the left and right sides.

Then adhere the left and right sections to the card back, so they won't open.

For the center easel, score the middle section at 2-1/8" from the bottom edge.

Left and Right DSP pieces 1-1/4" x 4"

Center Easel - 2 pieces 2-1/4" x 1-7/8"

Basic White for inside is 2-1/2" x 4"

Use an embellishment for your easel stopper.

Card 3 - Triangle Gate Fold Card layout cased from LeeAnn Greff

Single-layer Card base 4-1/4" x 5-1/2"

Designer Series Paper 5-1/4" x 12", scored at 2", 4", 8", 10"

Mark 2-1/4" from top outside corners, draw a line to connect with the 4" and 8" score lines. Trim that section off, but save the pieces.

With those saved pieces measure a right triangle with 2" sides, trim off excess DSP and toss. Adhere the right triangle as shown in the photo above.

Basic White inner layer - 3/1/2" x 4-3/4"

Unfinished PHD Card Projects?

Do you have a PHD? I have several, but not the collegiate type, but Projects Half Done. What I’m sharing today falls in this category.

Last summer I had seen a post by Song of My Heart Stampers. Lyssa Griffin Zwolanek developed the Chevron Quilt Strip Background Technique using 1" x 6" paper strips. I thought cool! I have several paper packs of the Flowers for Every Season 6” x 6” Designer Series Paper and I gave her technique a try. It is harder than it appears! (at least for me) I had a heck of a time making the joints line up! They didn’t turn out quite as perfectly aligned as I hoped they would, so I set them aside.

 Months and months passed as the paper “quilts” got moved around my desk top multiple times. But one day not too long ago, I said, “These are good enough. No, they aren’t perfect, but isn’t that what cardmaking is all about?” Handmade with Love. It’s my attempt at this technique. I decided they weren’t half bad after all.

So I went ahead and finished them into cards to share here on my blog with you, my readers. 

My desk is happy! Some of the clutter is cleaned up. I am happy they are done!

Bumblebee cardstock

Flowers for Every Season 6x6 Designer Series Paper

Basic White layer to stamp Happy Birthday on in Just Jade from the Sweet Ice Cream stamp set

Basic White to build the strips on

Jar of Flowers Stamp Set

Assorted Stampin’ Blends to color the bouquet image

Cinnamon Cider cardstock and ink

Jar Punch

1/4” Bumblebee Gingham Ribbon

2020-2022 InColor Enamel Dots

Almost all the the ingredients above plus the Layering Squares Dies for the rest of the cards shown.

Valentine's Week Worth of Cards #1

Valentine's is almost here! This week I'll be sharing some cards I made for you to celebrate the holiday. I used some retired products, but the layout ideas are good forever!

This card idea was inspired by Nedine Hunter DuPree.

In case you have some of this wonderful, retired All My Love Designer Series Paper

 in your collection, here's what I used to create today's card:

Flirty Flamingo, Blushing Bride, and Basic White Cardstock

Meant To Be stamp set

Real Red ink

retired Red Foil

Heart Punch Pack

Layering Squares Dies

non-SU 1/8" satin ribbon

Resin Heart embellishments

glue dots and dimensionals

die cutting machine

Cutting Dimensions:

Card base 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", scored at 4-1/4", then trim off 1/16" from 

the card front to allow the heart flap to lay down when attached. 

Designer Series Paper - 4" x 5-1/4" and scrap to punch heart.

Basic White inside card layer - 4" x 5-1/4" 

Red Foil scrap to punch scalloped heart

3-1/4" squares for the Blushing Bride square and the Flirty Flamingo scalloped square die cuts

The part you can't see is you'll need a  piece 2-3/4" x 3-3/4" of Flirty Flamingo with a 1" score across the 2-3/4" width, so you can adhere that 1" section to the card base inside, which will then be covered with the Basic White inner card layer. The remaining piece will be what you adhere the scalloped square layer to after you have assembled the 2 heart layers. and the Blushing Bride square.

Susie Wood's Fun Fold Snowman Style

The Fun Fold for this card was CASED from Susie Wood. The name of the Fun Fold is the Center Z Fold. As you'll see when you scroll through the photos, the card expands wide because it has two Z folds hidden inside it.

I thought it would be fun to try this Fun Fold by combining the Snowman Season and Christmas Means More stamp sets with the Snowflake Splendor Designer Series Paper (DSP). I think the result oozes the upcoming Holiday Season. It's So Cute!
