Darling Angel from Flight of Fancy set

One of the new stamp sets in the August-December 2020 Mini Catalog is Flight of Fancy on page 59. It is a three holiday stamp set with a Halloween Witch, the cute Angel, and a darling Cupid for Valentine's Day. The moment I saw it I knew it was going on my wish list!

First of all, I'd like to credit Dawn Olchefske for the belly band idea using two 2" x 5-1/2" strips with the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch. But I gave it a holiday twist by off-centering the belly band to make room for the angel stamp. Read on for another realization that occurred to me after the card in the first photo was finished.

Before I share how to make this card - here's my realization!  The top photo has a 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" card base scored at 4-1/4". The belly band goes completely around the closed card. The card base just has one layer of Designer Series Paper on it, all the cuteness is on the belly band. So HOW will this card stand up open on display when the receiver wants to display it? IT WON'T!  It will have to be leaned closed against something for display purposes, just like what I did when I took the photo above.

Since I like to stand up my cards to admire them, my realization is this! I would need a card base that is 4-1/4" x 11", scored at 5-1/2" instead. Then belly band will just go around the front of the card so it will open up and display easily. So I made a new card base, thus version two in the photo below.

Now this is a much better design in my opinion and I hope you'll agree!

Let's Create this Card!

Supplies Needed
Stamps: Flight of Fancy, and the word "believe" from Itty Bitty Christmas
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: Mossy Meadow cardstock, Whisper White cardstock, Real Red cardstock, and Heartwarming Hugs Designer Series Paper
Embellishments: 8" piece of Real Red 3/8" Sheer Ribbon,  8" piece of Linen Thread
Accessories: Scalloped Tag Topper Punch, 1/16" hole punch, 1" Circle Punch, 1-1/4" Circle Punch,  both assortments of Watercolor Pencils, Blender Pen, Bone Folder, Mini Dimensional, Seal adhesive, Seal + adhesive, and Glue Dots

Assembly Steps
1. Cut Mossy Meadow cardstock 4-1/4" x 11", scored at 5-1/2" for card base.
2. Cut Designer Series Paper and Whisper White 4" x 5-1/4". Adhere to card base as shown. Set aside for now.
3. Cut Whisper White - two 2" x 5-1/2" strips for belly band. Punch one end of each strip with Scalloped Tag Popper Punch.
4. With the Memento Ink stamp the Angel on one of the belly band strips like shown in photo above.
5. Using Watercolor Pencils, color the Angel and buildings. Then use Blender pen to blend pencils to finish the coloring.
6. With Real Red punch out circle with 1-1/4" Circle Punch. With Whisper White  punch out circle with 1" Circle Punch.
7. With the Memento Ink stamp "believe" on 1" Whisper White circle. Then adhere to Real Red circle with Seal adhesive. Using 1/16" hole punch, punch small hole through both layers as shown in photo. Fold the Linen Thread in half and loop through tag and secure.
8. For the Belly Band assembly - Line up the two tags so the punched ends overlap slightly and stick together with a glue dot. Thread Real Red ribbon through slots and tie bow.  Then thread one of the tag's linen thread ends through the slots below red ribbon and tie ends in a bow.
9. Now retrieve your finished card base and decide where you'd like the belly band to lay on the front of the card. Making sure your belly band is level affix a few glue dots between the band and card front to secure. Now flip card and band over, carefully folding the ends of the belly band along the end of the card front, making sure ends overlap. Use bone folder to have a crisp fold on each card edge. When all looks good, use Seal+ adhesive to secure belly band to card front inside and with each other.

Suggestions: You can always stamp another holiday stamp or greeting on the Whisper White layer of the inner card. Or stamp on the envelope front or back flap, or cover the envelope flap with the matching Designer Series Paper to dress things up a bit.
