Easy Vertical Drapery Fold Technique

Here's a card layout idea for YOU! I saw this Vertical Drapery Fold Card idea recently which I had never seen before, but there were no measurements available to CASE. So I decided to break all the rules and just have some fun. Wow, that was so freeing! No measuring except for the initial cut.

This card layout is super easy to do and you get two cards from this layout. 

Here's how:

1. Prepare two card bases - 4-1/4" x 11" with score at 5-1/2" to match the Designer Series Paper you choose.

2. Select a Designer Series Paper that has an all-over design.  I am using Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper which is retired. Cut a 6" x 12" piece.

3. With a pencil on the 6" size, make a tick mark at 2" from the left side. Rotate the paper 180 degrees and do this step again for another tick mark. Then place your paper on your paper trimmer and line up the two tick marks and cut.

4. On the resulting 4" end run a line of Stampin' Seal adhesive, on the other 2" end, do the same.

5. Carefully stick the 4" end down on your card base and then stick the 2" end down. You will have a "hill" of paper between the two ends.  Here's where the FUN begins. Go ahead and make 3 or 4 pleats in your paper until all the pleats lay flat. Use your bone folder to score the creases. Make sure you try to keep the right edge lined up.

6. Then lift up the entire set of pleats and add some adhesive underneath. Press to card front.

7. Lift the small folded pleats and run adhesive down each one. Press down.

8. Finish your card with whatever greeting, colors, and embellishments you need. I used the Ridiculously Awesome Stamp Set and circle punches that I have in my collection.

This card layout is a great way to use up some of your Designer Series Paper in your stash.

Borders to Backgrounds Set - Oh the Things You Can Do!

  Hello! Thanks for taking a minute to read my blog entry for today. One of the new stamp sets in the January-June Mini Catalog is "Borders to Backgrounds" on page 30. It is a wonderful set that brings a lot of value because you can use it in a variety of ways! I'm sharing two card designs today to show two different ways to use this set.

Since Valentine's Day is quickly approaching, I immediately saw a Valentine's card with the heart border. Start at the bottom of the Basic White cardstock and in Real Red ink stamp and stagger the rows until a full background image is created. Since the border stamp is photopolymer it is very easy to see through. Lining things up is a snap!

A while back another papercrafter had shared a technique online I hadn't ever tried before. I thought this was the card to give it a go. The technique is simple - stamp your chosen ink color first, then stamp on top of the dried image with Versamark ink and sprinkle with Clear Embossing Powder, heat set with the Heat Tool and the magic happens! (See 3rd close-up photo)

The card base is Real Red cardstock. The greeting comes from the Ridiculously Awesome stamp set. The greeting is stamped in Real Red ink and fussy cut around the edge. Mount the greeting on Basic Black for effect then fussy cut around that too with Paper Snips. The small Resin Heart embellishment is all the card needed for a finished look.

Don't forget to stamp something on the inside layer! That darling heart I stamped also comes from the Ridiculously Awesome stamp set. Two hearts to celebrate LOVE!

I am very pleased with my original design and how it turned out. Overall easy to do!

This next card design was inspired by LeeAnn Greff, I had to try her method for myself and it is very easy to do. Using the Peony Garden Designer Series Paper die cut out 1-1/2", 2", and 2-1/2" Circles from the Layering Circles Dies with the Cut & Emboss Machine. Cut each circle in half with the Trimmer. 

The Gray Granite card base has a layer of Basic Black on top. 

Stamp the random small dots border twice diagonally in Petal Pink ink on the Basic White card base. Adhere that layer to the card front. The Square Vellum Doily goes down next. 

Here's how to make the circle and strip unit. Glue the 3 circle halves stacked together as shown in photo. Repeat for other half circle stack. Prepare a Gray Granite 1/2" x 5" strip. 

Use the Tailored Tag Punch by slipping the end of the strip into the punch so only the one end "arrow" would punch, then turn the strip around and punch the other end exactly the same. Next place the two sets of half circles underneath the strip just to make sure they fit before 

stamping the greeting.

Stamp the "Just Because" from the Lovely You stamp set in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink on the strip. Flip over and place adhesive on the back of the strip and carefully place the two circle stacks so the strip and the two circle stacks become one unit to match the photo. Raise the entire unit with Dimensionals and place on the prepared Basic White layer. Embellish with Elegant Faceted Gems.

If desired stamp the inner card layer with the small peony stamp in Petal Pink. Do the same for the lower left corner of the envelope front, because you don't want any "naked" envelopes!

Now you have two fun card designs to make with the Borders to Background stamp set.

Rainbow Bright Awesome Card

This Ridiculously Awesome Glimmer Rainbow card is so cheerful and colorful, any friend or loved one would adore receiving your work of art!  This card was inspired by the amazing Kylie Bertucci of Australia. This card design will be one design we will be making at my next card class on Oct. 17-18.

I love the look of white heat embossing powder on Basic Black cardstock. Reminds me of a chalkboard effect. This card really POPS! with the Granny Apple Green card base and the Rainbow Glimmer Paper cut in strips and alternated on the card front. Here's a fun fact this new Glimmer Paper doesn't sprinkle glitter all over your work table. It has been engineered to stick to the backing paper better than ever! It cuts easy on the Paper Trimmer too!

The Rainbow Glimmer Paper is cut in 1/2" strips and staggered in different lengths.

Bright Three Color Card

Do you ever shy away from using certain colors in Stampin’ Up!s color families? I sure do. 

This particular card is one I’ve designed for an October mail-in swap I’m participating in. I challenged myself to use some newer colors to see what I could come up with. 

I started with cutting up a 6” x 6” sheet of the 2020-22 InColor Designer Series Paper (DSP) stack to create 4 equal polygons. I played with arrangement, color combos, and pattern until I created something that made me happy. 

The winning color scheme is Magenta Madness, Just Jade and Bumblebee along with the two rose sheets from the Flowers for Every Season 6” x 6”  DSP.  In addition to those items, I also used the Ridicuously Awesome stamp set, Just Jade Ink, Magenta Madness cardstock, Just Jade cardstock, Just Jade 1/4” ribbon,  Duet Butterfly Punch, Champagne Rhinestones, Stitched Shapes Dies, Layering Circles Dies, and a Whisper White card base.

How to cut the 6x6 DSP is easy. Use a pencil and ruler and measure 1-1/2” from the lower right corner and make a tick mark. Rotate the paper 90 degrees then repeat process 3 more times. With your pencil and ruler draw a line connecting the 2 opposite marks and then rotate the paper 90 degrees and draw a second line connecting the remaining two marks. With your paper trimmer slice the paper on the drawn lines to create the 4 pieces.

You will be able to make four cards from this process. It’s a great way to use up old Designer Series Paper and still create beautiful cards.
