Abundant Beauty Decorative Masks - Pattern 1 - Masculine Birthday Card

Have you purchased products with the intention of using them, then they sit on your shelf and you never get around to using them? Well that has been me with previous stencils I've purchased from Stampin' Up! But this time I decided, "not this time" so over the next few days you'll be seeing each mask used in a card design. Feel free to CASE any or all!

Abundant Beauty Decorative Masks, page 47 in the new Mini Catalog

Technique - Blending Brushes with Classic Ink Pad

Here's how you do this technique:

Cut to size the cardstock layer you want the mask to go on. Use a very small piece of adhesive (like tape runner or double sided tape) to stick the cardstock to your grid paper. Be sure to use the lines of your grid paper to square the paper up. Next lay the mask on top of the cardstock and use some small bits of scotch tape or washi tape to hold the mask in place.

Grab one of your Blending Brushes and the color of ink you desire. I used Pebbled Path ink on Very Vanilla cardstock. You will use a circular motion to load your blending brush with ink, then start from the outside edge of the mask and go inward in the opposite circular motion to apply. Depending on how much pressure you apply to the blending brush your ink can be lightly applied or dark like my sample.

Repeat this process until you are happy with the look. Then carefully peel off the tape on the mask and gently lift the cardstock from the grid paper.

Now you are ready to build your masculine birthday card!

The Houndstooth pattern seemed masculine to me, so I used the Gone Fishing Stamp set and Let's Go Fishing Designer Series Paper (DSP) to design this Birthday Card.
Additional Products used were Mossy Meadow Cardstock and Ink, Very Vanilla cardstock, and retired from several years ago Mossy Meadow Braided Linen Trim. You can substitute whatever trim you have that looks good to you.

The Phrases for All stamp set provided the Happy Birthday greeting on the inner layer.
Decorate your envelope flap with matching DSP. Cut 2 1/4" x 6", adhere to exterior flap and trim off excess.

Close Up of the tag. The Mossy Meadow layer is 2 1/4" square. The DSP layer is 2 1/8" square. The greeting was stamped in Mossy Meadow ink from the Gone Fishing stamp set. The two layers were adhered together and raised up over the linen trim with dimensionals. The fish was fussy cut from the DSP and raised up on mini dimensionals.

A Fishy Happy Retirement Card with Stampin' Up!s Gone Fishing Products - Easy to Create

Here fishy, fishy is exactly what you'll be saying when you dive into the Gone Fishing Bundle of Products offered by Stampin' Up! I'll be sharing several cards over the next few days that will be simple and easy cards, but they will hook you for sure! This layout was inspired by Patty Bennett, but I left out a layer that she did and added a backing for my tag. That's what we call changing it up a bit, so we can call it our own!

This card would be perfect for someone who plans to do a LOT of fishing in their retirement, more specifically, fly fishing, because I'm pretty sure that's what those lures are below.

I have to admit I'm not much of a fish lover in terms of handling them. I just don't like their scaly, slimy, skin. Sure I can pick up a piece of salmon to bake it for dinner, but that's about all I can manage. I think it all stems from a childhood trauma that one of my guppy fish jumped out of the aquarium and I screamed for my dad to come put it back. I just couldn't do it! At least the little fella didn't croak! Dad saved a life!

Who do you know who will be retiring soon and would like to receive this card made that
you made for them?

Color Palette:
Card base - Very Vanilla
Layer 1 - Let's Go Fishing Designer Series Paper (DSP)
Layer 2 - 2 sets of 2 pieces of Let's Go Fishing Designer Series Paper (DSP)
Very Vanilla Tag die cut from the tackle box die (you get 5 tags in one cut, now that's a sweet deal!)
Backing the tag is a piece of Pecan Pie cardstock.
Boho Blue ink to stamp the greeting.

Let's Go Fishing Designer Series Paper
2023-25 In Color Dots embellishments
Paper Snips for fussy cutting the fish out.

Here's a fun idea,  on a 4" x 5 1/4" separate piece of Very Vanilla, use the edge of the DSP and glue down some partial fish swimming across the bottom of the inside of the card layer. I added an additional layer to make the card feel more sturdy.

The important details:

Very Vanilla Card base is 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4"
Boho Blue DSP Layer is 4" x 5 1/4" as well as the Very Vanilla inner layer
Fly Fish Lures of DSP are cut 1" x 2 5/8"
Pecan Pie Diagonal Plaid are cut 1" x 3 7/8"
Pecan Pie layer under tag is 1 1/2" x 2 3/4" with corners rounded
with paper snips matching the Very Vanilla tag
3 fussy cut fish from the DSP, but edge fish for inner layer

Be sure to add a matching piece of the Let's Go Fishing DSP to the exterior flap of the Very Vanilla envelope. It really makes a fabulous gift that way!
